About Me

Portrait of therapist Karen Bland

Meet Karen

Trauma‑Informed Online Therapist

I’m Karen Bland, and I work with adults online across the UK who are experiencing anxiety, stress, burnout or the effects of difficult life experiences.

I bring warmth, curiosity and a down-to-earth approach. There’s room for messy feelings, not knowing where to start, and a little humour when it feels right.

Together, we can explore what’s happening for you, make sense of recurring patterns and find ways forward that fit your needs. I’ll listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions and gently challenge you when it could be helpful.

About My Practice

Compassion, Experience and Lasting Support

Why I Do This Work

I’m drawn to people’s stories: what they’ve lived through, how they’ve adapted, and the parts of themselves they may find difficult to share.

My own life experiences have shaped the compassion and curiosity I bring to this work. But your story is yours - I want to understand what life feels like for you, without assuming I already know.

What matters to me is offering a relationship where you can speak honestly, feel heard and have room to discover what you need.

What Matters to Me in Therapy

I value honesty, trust and a relationship where you can be yourself.

That means:

• Listening without judgement or jumping to conclusions

• Respecting your pace, boundaries and choices

• Being open to feedback about what is—and isn’t—helping

• Offering gentle challenge when it could be useful

• Making room for different ways of thinking, feeling and communicating.

You bring knowledge of your own life. I bring my training, experience and curiosity. We work together.

How My Approach Evolved

My foundation is therapeutic counselling. Over time, I’ve added training in many creative approaches, and the MAP Method™.

These give us different ways to explore what you’re experiencing, including when words are difficult to find.

I adapt how I work through discussion with you, drawing on your needs, preferences and feedback.

I continue to learn and reflect on my practice through supervision and ongoing professional development.

Working Together

What It's Like to Work With Me

Clients often describe me as calm, steady and gently challenging when needed.

I bring warmth, curiosity and a down-to-earth approach, with space for humour when it feels right. You don’t need to find the perfect words or have everything worked out before we begin.

Together, we’ll explore what’s troubling you, make sense of the patterns you notice and work towards changes that matter to you. Your pace, boundaries and feedback help shape our work.

I work online with clients across the UK, so you can join sessions from a private, comfortable space of your own.

If you’d like to get a feel for working together, you’re welcome to book a free consultation. We can talk about what you’re looking for, answer your questions and see whether we feel like a good fit.

Areas of Professional Interest

I’m particularly interested in how childhood experiences can influence the way we see ourselves, relate to others and respond when life feels difficult.

In our work, there may be space to explore:

• Feeling responsible for other people’s emotions

• Finding it difficult to trust or ask for support

• Being hard on yourself or feeling you’re never enough

• Patterns of keeping the peace, withdrawing or pushing yourself too hard

We can be curious about how these patterns developed and whether they still serve you. You don’t need to label your childhood as traumatic, or explore anything before you feel ready.

How I Work

A trauma‑informed, whole‑person approach

We can explore how your thoughts, emotions, body responses and life experiences connect.

I draw on counselling, mind–body approaches and practical tools, with the MAP Method™ available where appropriate and agreed with you.

Together, we decide what to focus on and regularly check how the work feels for you.

What this means for you

A calm, confidential space to explore what’s happening beneath the surface

Support to regulate your nervous system and feel more grounded

Space to move at a pace that feels safe and manageable

Practical tools you can use between sessions

Fully online sessions from your own familiar environment

Therapeutic Counselling

A steady, compassionate space to explore your experiences, understand emotional patterns, and make sense of what’s been overwhelming. We focus on insight, validation, and emotional clarity.

Mind–Body & Nervous‑System Work

Gentle techniques to help your body settle, reduce stress responses, and create a sense of internal safety. This supports deeper healing and more regulated day‑to‑day living.

Tools

Simple, practical strategies to support boundaries, emotional regulation, and healthier coping patterns.

The MAP Method™

A gentle, neuroscience‑supported process that helps update old emotional patterns without reliving difficult memories. It works with the subconscious to reduce anxiety, soften triggers, and create more ease. Read more here; Explore the MAP Method™
